     Yahoo and MSN have both launched beta testing for new IM programs that will allow users of both services to communicate together!


AOL to make AIM a voice over IP client

     AOL is working on a VOIP client that they hope will make the AOL Instant Messenger service stand out of the crowd.   The service is called AIM Phoneline, and it will enable AIM users to receive phone calls on a free number provided by AOL.   If users wish to use the service to make outgoing calls, they will need to upgrade their VOIP service which will cost $14.95 USD per month.


Jabber has been added to the Buddy Registry

AIM users beware, there's a new worm in town

     There is a new worm finding it's way around the AIM network.   eWeek.com reports that this virus advertises itself by sending the message "this picture never gets old" along with a link to download a file named 'iTUNES.EXE'.   If you have already opened this file, Trend Micro can tell you how to remove the worm.


Mobile phone companies joining forces to back IM services

     A handful of mobile phone companies have decided to collaborate in an attempt to drive global take-up of IM services on cellular devices.   The mobile phone companies see this as an opportunity to 'open up a new revenue stream' since users will be charged for each message sent.
